Why Network Neuroscience Invalidates Current Psychology & Coaching Models
Beginning in 1990, neuroscientists realized that autobiographical memories are not stored anywhere in the brain and are actually unstable molecular processes are constantly being revised by our imagination and new experiences. More recent research in the field of network neuroscience has firmly shown that reflecting on past experiences – even traumatic ones – disrupts network functioning and interferes with the brain’s ability to regulate our emotions, feelings, and negative thoughts. And the most recent discoveries that how grown out of mindfulness research shows that there are three key elements that are essential for building emotional and psychological health: Remaining anchored in present-moment awareness with a trusted person, describing one’s mind-wandering processes in a highly interactive and spontaneous dialogue, where each person slowly speaks about 10-20 words and then pauses to listen to person’s brief comment.
When both people continually return to present-moment awareness, mutual empathic rapport is neurologically stimulated. This alone balances key brain networks in a way that rapidly builds emotional and cognitive health, and any therapy that excludes these principles will not be more effective than placebo. In this 24-minute video I explain why it is essential to teach people how to develop present-moment awareness whenever they enter into an important conversation with others.
You can personalize the NeuroCoaching strategies and teach them to your clients one on one, or you can apply these brain-changing techniques to any size group – to couples, to families, to boardrooms, to classrooms, to convention halls – in just a few hours.
